"Awwww c'mon Aqua!" Ven whined at her. They were on the beach of their island, the moon shining over the three friends. Ven looked to be eight or nine years old, Terra two years older than that, maybe three. The point of veiw had Ven a bit shorter and Terra a bit taller.
Aqua reached out and ruffled Ven's spiky hair. "Yes?" she asked impishly innocent.
"I just finished building my Keyblade. Do we really have to spar now?"
"Ven, have you seen Aqua's face? She's in her stubborn mode."
Aqua gave Terra a light push. "Hey!"
"When isn't she?" Ven muttered.
"UH!" she protested. Her Keyblade shimmered out of her palm into her hand. It was a sensation of billions of nano bots coming out of her palm to create the weapon. She aimed it at Ven and a thin blast of water hit him in the chest, coming out of the blade.
"HEY!" he protested.
Aqua's face twitched into a grin. "Don't like it?" she teased. Come and get me."
Ven's hand launched back and the Keyblade he had just made formed itself out of his new nanobots. "That still feels so weird!" he said, holding his Keyblade in a backwards grip so the blade was behind him.
"Only one way to get used to it," Terra said, summoning his own Keyblade.
"Not you too, Terra," Ven complained.
Aqua laughed. "You wanted Master Eraqus to put you ahead with us. You know he's going to test you. So let's practice."
"Besides, less embarrassing to have Aqua whoop your butt out here than in front of everyone," Terra said.
"You think I can't beat her?" Ven protested.
"I think if you don't practice you can't beat either of us," Aqua said. Then she hesitated and lowered her Keyblade. "If you really don't want to, Ven," she said concerned about him now. "It's okay."
"It is?" he asked, not trusting that, clearly.
Aqua let her Keyblade break up and flow back into her. She walked over and hugged him. "I'm sorry if we're pushing you too hard."
"You're not," he said, squirming a bit. "I just want a day or two to rest and celebrate, you know."
"You mean to show off," Terra said dryly, coming over and pulling Ven from Aqua to put him in a loose headlock. "Just because you're ahead of the others your age, don't get an ego on us, You're still far behind Aqua and me."
"I'm catching up! I may be two years younger but I'm almost as good as you, Terra!" he protested.
"Not if you don't practice," Terra said, firmly, letting him go.
Aqua sighed a bit. "Terra. Ven," she said softly, but getting both of their attention at once. "Ven, if we've been pushing you to try and catch up to us, I'm sorry. We're sorry. You should go at your own pace. If you're not ready to advance, there is nothing wrong with that."
"What? Wait! I never said that! Of course I want to catch up to you guys! We're best friends right. I'll do anything to stay in the same lessons as you guys! Why do you think I worked so hard to get this?" He asked, holding u his Keyblade.
"I dunno," Terra said, scratching the back of his head. "Could have fooled me. Seems like you just want to show off."
"Hey!" Ven said and took a ready stance. "What are you waiting for! Let's do this!"
"Well if you're sure..." Terra said, laughing.
"Ven..." Aqua said softly, concerned.
"Ah, this is nothing, Aqua, I'll kick his butt then take you down next!"
"Big words, small boy," Terra teased, and then danced back grinning as Ven charged at him. Aqua laughed, relief taking the place of the worry. She watched the two of them clash, separate, clash again. Terra clearly was better, but Ven wasn't doing terribly at all for his first time with a real Keyblade. He even got one good rap on Terra's leg.
"Way to go, Ven! That's the way!" Aqua cheered.
"Hey, whose side are you on, Aqua?" Terra asked, distracted. Ven took the opening and got in under Terra's Guard. Terra jumped back and got his Keyblade up to defend just in time. "Not fair teaming up on me!"
Ven laughed. "Where's your Mastery?" he teased. "A Master wouldn't get distracted in the middle of battle."
"What battle?" Terra scoffed. "I'm fighting a kid."
Aqua wrapped her arms around her middle, laughing. They both stopped fighting to look at her. "What?" Ven asked, put out.
"You two make the weirdest brothers," she said, still laughing. Her love for them both was overflowing, her cheeks hurting from smiling so broadly.
"Huh?" Ven asked, then blinked. "Hey!"
"Uh huh. If we're so weird, what does that make you?" Terra asked.
Aqua grinned, feeling her Keyblade reform in her hand. "The one who is going to kick both your butts," she taunted, grinning.
"Wait, which one of us first?" Ven asked, readying his Keyblade again.
She grinned and jumped back readying the water power she'd absorbed yesterday. "Both!" She said, turning the power up, channeled through her Keyblade, soaking them both.
"HEY!" Ven said, raising his Keyblade to try and block the flow as Terra charged her.
Aqua cartwheeled out of the way and brought her Keyblade up as he tried to swing at her side. She knocked his Keyblade aside and followed with an air power, tossing him into the air. Ven charged in under Terra's now dangling feet and Aqua met his Keyblade with hers, as they both laughed.
Terra broke free and used the drop to his advantage, driving his Keyblade down. She brought hers up to block as Ven struck at her middle. She fell back, but twisted her Keyblade and her foot, tangling Terra's KEyblade and Ven's legs so they all went down in a heap together. She vanished her Keyblade and threw an arm around each of them, laughing. They joined in on the laughter vanishing their Keyblades too.
"I'm glad we can be like this. Together." She told them, burying her face in Terra's shoulder.
"Aqua," Terra said, "Sometimes you're such a girl."
She let go of him to throw a handful of sand at him. "What do you mean sometimes?" she challenged as she let Ven up. Terra rolled off of her, groaning. She laughed and hopped to her feet, offering him a hand up. Most of her powers were stored in her Keyblade, but there was one she kept stored within herself, though her Keyblade was still the focus for it. She resummoned the weapon and raised it high. Green energy spilled from the Keyblade over all three of them, healing them all.
